Paracetamol (e.g. CROCIN, CALPOL) 500 mg up to thrice a day Fever
Ibuprofen (e.g. BRUFEN) 400 mg up to four times a day Headache, muscle pains, sprains etc.
Diphenoxylate-atropine (e.g. LOMOTIL) Combination drug, standard dose up to twice a day Uncontrollable diarrhoea Not to be used if allergic to drugs or in the presence of jaundice, best taken only when there is no access to toilets e.g. when travelling
Ranitidine (e.g. RANTAC, ZINETAC) or Omeprazole (e.g. OMEZ) Ranitidine 150 mg
Omeprazole 20 mg Up to twice a day
Acidity, acid reflux
Metaclopramide (e.g. PERINORM) 10 mg up to twice a day Avoid use in people with Parkinson’s Disease and depression
Pheniramine (e.g. AVIL) or Cetirizine (e.g. CETZINE, ZYRTEC) Pheniramine 25 mg or Cetirizine 10 mg up to twice a day Allergies of any kind including itching, rashes, hives etc. Pheniramine causes drowsiness, so delicate tasks and jobs calling for skill should not be attempted
Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS, e.g. ELECTRAL) One packet dissolved in one litre of water, taken continually in small sips Diarrhoea causing water loss
Dressings like gauze and cotton wool, an antiseptic liquid like Dettol/Savlon, bandaids, medical tape Wounds, leech and tick bites, shoe bites etc.
Elastic crepe bandage Sprains
Insect repellant cream or lotion (e.g. ODOMOS) To be applied from dusk to dawn on all exposed parts of the body Allergies to ingredients
